KULTUR SHOCK & EDO MAAJKA (USA, BIH) ● BRKOVI (CRO) ● EDO MAAJKA (BIH) ● KOALA VOICE

KULTUR SHOCK

Gino Yevdjevich (vocals, trumpet, percussion)
Val Kiossovski (guitar, vocals)
Mario Butkovic (guitar)
Chris Stromquist (drums and percussion)
Guy M. Davis (bass, vocals)
Amy Denio (saxophone/clarinet, vocals)

Kultur Shock's style is impossible to define - critics and audiences alike throw SOAD, Gogol Bordello, Manu Chao, Gang of Four, The Pogues, Balkan folk music examples, punk rock and heavy metal as references to it. That being said, nothing can prepare the unsuspecting listener to what is going to come out of their home stereo speakers or what's going to happen to them during the live shows that the band is best known for.

Based in Seattle-USA and partly comprised of immigrants who bring in heavy influences from their own cultures and background, over the years the band has developed a whole new genre with an unmistakable tone and attitude. The band has succeeded to achieve their own blend and tone, which is unique and unmistakable. Their uncompromising artistry has gained them the support of Serj Tankian, Nirvana's Krist Novoselic (who played accordion on their last studio album), FNM's Bill Gould (who released their first 4 albums on KoolArrow Records), and Jello Biafra (who described them as "this is what punk rock should sound like").

Formed in Seattle in 1996, the band has 3 live, 8 studio albums and over 1000 European and American shows under its belt and currently celebrating their 20th anniversary. Almost all of its club dates are headlining (they are joking that they make a really lousy opener - "Go fuckin' play after us...."), has headlined many festival stages and supported artist like Iggy Pop and the Stooges, Manu Chao, The Whalers, Gogol Bordello (quite a few times), Burning Spear and Sepultura - to name a few, and has given the chance to many young and aspiring artists to share a stage with them.

EDO MAAJKA

KOALA VOICE

Manca Trampuš (guitar, vocal)
Miha Prašnikar (drums)
Domen Don Holc (guitar)
Tilen Prašnikar (bass)

Don't let the cute, wide-eyed looks of Koala Voice fool you. Sure, the young quartet effortlessly bangs out sugary sweet, upbeat indie hits, all while sounding charmingly shy and adorable. Yet, a brooding and thoughtful side bubbles underneath - one that sheds a gripping, passionate light on the playfulness of their music.

And exactly therein lies the group's strength: while guitarist Domen Don Holc builds songs with a garage pop sensibility and a clean 70s vibe, the unbeatable rhythm section of brothers Miha and Tilen Prašnikar counters with a carefree, indie disco vibe and just a bit of a jam moment. On top of it all, singer-guitarist Manca Trampuš brings in her refined talent for complementing the boys' excellent instrumental work with infectious, smart melodies that draw the listener right into the stumbling, hung over, and melancholy stories on the importance of everyday life.

Formed in 2010, Koala Voice first caught people's attention two years later, winning just about every noteworthy "upcoming bands" competition around, all with two of its members still in high school. Soon, the dynamic, upbeat, and super catchy debut "Kangaroo's a Neighbour" was assembled - a record where each of the thirteen songs seems to be a hit song. Produced by Peter Dekleva, member of the extraordinary underground outfit Srečna mladina, the album quickly became a surprise hit of the Slovenian pop rock scene, charming independent music lovers and an almost mainstream audience alike.

Harboring a formidable, thrilling live energy, the band has played over 50 shows in 2015 alone, both in Slovenia and abroad, including gigs at festivals such as Novi Sad's EXIT, Moscow's Wild Mint, and Hamburg's Reeperbahn Festival. Among all this touring, the group also found time to star in a performance titled "Kam pa kam" - an event equal parts theater play, concert, and movie. And no end is in sight: recently hailed by the UK's DIY mag as "one of the five best discoveries at Eurosonic 2016", Koala Voice has started the new year with a blast. An opportunity to see them live is not to be missed, while the upcoming sophomore album is already in the works, and eagerly anticipated.
